About Oldham Signs

Established in 1987, Oldham Signs was born out of the desires and talents of one man – Mr. John Oldham! Where did it all start? Now, keeping things real and honest - as we like to do at Oldham Signs - John needed a change from collecting his biweekly teachers’ pay and wanted to do something he thought was more constructive with his time and creative talents. John has always had a passion for teaching and graphic design, so he had been honing his skills in hand lettering since before Oldham Signs was opened. It has to be said, the expertise and abilities he has in the dying artform of hand lettering in sign design are exceptional. His work has been featured across the state of Texas for decades, on the sides of motorcycle tanks, private and commercial vehicles, company buildings, and more! Turning his already growing creative talents and skills into more than just a side-line or hobby, John Oldham took the desire and drive he had for producing high-quality graphic design and hand lettering to new levels. He started a sign design business that has lasted for over 30 years. The first sign we ever produced was for the Waco ISD and the re-lettering of the Paul Tyson football field sign. I guess it was probably 20 feet long and at least four feet tall. So, I bought a ladder, and I crawled up there and I re-lettered it. It probably took me a couple weeks to complete, but it was an interesting and challenging sign to do! But if I am being brutally honest before I did that Waco ISD sign, they wanted me to submit some kind of sample of my lettering, so I hand lettered (painted) two restroom signs to pretty much get me that job and so by hand lettering a couple restroom signs, they hired me for the re-lettering and from that Oldham Signs was off and running”
